چکیده

Differently from the parton–parton scattering amplitudes, which are known to be affected by infrared (IR) divergences, the elastic scattering amplitude of two colourless states in gauge theories, e.g., two qq̄ meson states, is expected to be an IR–finite physical quantity. It was shown in Refs. [1,2,3] that the high–energy meson–meson elastic scattering amplitude can be approximately reconstructed by first evaluating, in the eikonal approximation, the elastic scattering amplitude of two qq̄ pairs (usually called “dipoles”), of given transverse sizes ~ R1⊥ and ~ R2⊥ respectively, and then averaging this amplitude over all possible values of ~ R1⊥ and ~ R2⊥ with two proper squared wave functions |ψ1(~ R1⊥)| 2 and |ψ2(~ R2⊥)| , describing the two interacting mesons. The high– energy elastic scattering amplitude of two dipoles is governed by the correlation function of twoWilson loops W1 and W2, which follow the classical straight lines for quark (antiquark) trajectories:

On the loop–loop scattering amplitudes in Abelian and non–Abelian gauge theories

The high–energy elastic scattering amplitude of two colour–singlet qq̄ pairs is governed by the correlation function of two Wilson loops, which follow the classical straight lines for quark (antiquark) trajectories. This quantity is expected to be free of IR divergences, differently from what happens for the parton–parton elastic scattering amplitude, described, in the high–energy limit, by the ...

Euclidean Formulation of Diffractive Scattering

After a brief review (in the first part) of some relevant properties of the high–energy parton– parton scattering amplitudes, in the second part we shall discuss the infrared finiteness and some analyticity properties of the loop–loop scattering amplitudes in gauge theories, when going from Minkowskian to Euclidean theory, and we shall see how they can be related to the still unsolved problem o...

Analyticity and Crossing Symmetry of the Eikonal Amplitudes in Gauge Theories

After a brief review and a more refined analysis of some relevant analyticity properties (when going from Minkowskian to Euclidean theory) of the high–energy parton–parton and hadron–hadron scattering amplitudes in gauge theories, described nonperturbatively, in the eikonal approximation, by certain correlation functions of two Wilson lines or two Wilson loops near the light cone, we shall see ...

Infrared Singularities in Qcd Amplitudes

— We review recent progress in determining the infrared singularity structure of on-shell scattering amplitudes in massless gauge theories. We present a simple ansatz where soft singularities of any scattering amplitude of massless partons, to any loop order, are written as a sum over colour dipoles, governed by the cusp anomalous dimension. We explain how this formula was obtained, as the simp...

Two-loop divergences of massive scattering amplitudes in non-abelian gauge theories

The infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension Γ, which is a matrix in color space and depends on the momenta and masses of the external partons. It has recently been shown that in cases where there are at least two massive partons involved in the scattering process, starting at two-loop order Γ receives contributions involving color and momentu...
